FLOATING ART-SCIENCE LAB

Picture
2015 - present

A DESIGN PROPOSAL. This latest iteration, as envisioned for the Gulf of California, is a repurposed barge that could be towed to various ports on both sides of the Gulf to aid in both research and public awareness of marine issues: from the hazards of gill net fishing and sustainable alternatives to the near extinction of the Vaquita, a diminutive porpoise. Facilities include a shaded area for lectures and conversations, a media area where subsurface life can be observed in real time, an arts studio for workshops and exhibitions and a science lab, also open for public workshops. The vessel would be co-staffed by marine scientists and artists whose focus is on marine biology, geology and climate.
