ASLO SUMMER CONFERENCE
2018

VICTORIA CONFERENCE CENTER
BRITISH COLOMBIA, CANADA
ARTIST ORGANIZERS: NINA HAFT AND LAUREN ELDER

This was an invitational experiment from the directors of ASLO (Association of Oceanographers and Limnologists). Nina Haft and Lauren Elder were asked to assemble a panel of 8 creatives from various disciplines to be a "presence" at the ASLO Summer Meeting in Victoria, BC Canada, to engage and stimulate scientists with the ways we frame shared issues.

We had three additional tasks: a 5 minute talk at the plenary session, a 2 hour panel and posters for the science exhibition. The group also included Maria Aranguen Gassiz, Liz Miller, John Roloff, Buster Simpson, Don Wilkison, Moira Williams.

Elder used her time to "report back" on a recent experience with EcoViva/Asociacion Mangle in El Salvador. They are a premiere environmental organization using a whole-watershed approach to their management of natural resources. They also integrate community murals into their process. Elder was part of a team adding a layer of human history to the nature murals.

Videos of the presentations are available through a Search the ASLO website.
